After a long day at work, and some crappy things happened (work), I saw Skyler waving to me when I parked my car at the drive way. I saw him sitting on the sofa next to the window and smiling to me. I was so happy and forgot all the bad things. When I opened the door, he held my leg and kissed me. My heart was soft and felt I was the most happiest mom in the world with such a cutiest son. This the best gift I have for today.
I was a little bit overwhelmed with all the work and family issues lately. The office is surrounded by all the politics all the times. I feel stress out some times to deal with all these. It is like working in the forest, and you need to watch out the tiger/lion attack you anytime. Besides this, we need attend/company family every week. I just want to spend some quality of time with Samson and Skyler. I am mentally and physically tired. Thanks god I have my half day off this Friday, and I can spend some times with my ex-coworkers, and may have massage to relieve my stress.

Music Together

Skyler went to a Music Together demo class last Saturday in Pleasanton. First, he was a little bit shy, hide behind mama and papa. After a teacher handed him a drum, he started playing it. There were about 13 kids with the parents. The teacher sang some songs that we had no idea what they were...I guess we will know when we sign up the class and get the CD songs. It was a good exercise when you took this kind of class with the kid. It was a interactive class, and 100% participate in it. Samson and I both enjoyed, and even grandmom was smiling all the time when she saw Skyler singing and playing with the kids.
We decided to sign up for this class in summer. Hopefully, Skyler can gain some social skills and be more active when he is with other kids.

Mama and dada have been very busy...well, LAZY updating Skyler's blog. So, mama made a promise that we need to update bai bai's blog at least once a week. We want bai bai will can view them when he grows up! :)

We went to cherry picking last Saturday with grandmom, auntie Lily. Grandmom was the one who pick the cherries, and auntie Lily who held the umbrella and tried to hide in the shade. Bai bai just "squeezed" the cherries, but not picked. We all had a great time, and grandmom was so enjoyed...she got 11 pounds of cherries!! Grand-mom was happy!

On Sunday, Kealan came to our house with his papa and mama. Mom prepared all the food the night before for BBQ. Mom got a "mini" pool with shade for Bai Bai and Kealan to swim. Bai bai was out of control when he got into the pool. He likes to play in the water. We all had a good time during the weekend.

Skyler is a over 20lbs now. Grandma from HK has been visiting and taking care of Skyler. While Grandma Lisa is in town, she witnessed Skyler saying Mama and Baba. Skyler is eating baby food now and loves fruit. Erica will feed him watermelon, apple, and banana. I guess that why Skyler's his first "sweet" tooth is popping out.

We were back from Canada last week. Both mommy and daddy were exhausted...since I didn't like to stay in the stroller, and mommy wanted to hold me when she saw me sitting without support. This is the first time to meet Carman kai ma and her families. Uncle Phil and kai ma's wedding was great. Daddy was MC, photographer, videographer....he was everything in the wedding. How talent he was... :)
The Banff trip was blast. The scenes are amazing, and the food prepared from Uncle Phil and kai ma was great. Oh, not to mention the ginger bread house competition... Kai ma and Grand Kai ma's house was..... I will let you guess the answer.
Tonight, mommy was talking with me, and I said my first word..."MOM" to her. Mommy thought that I was looking for food (mum mum), but she was still happy anyway. Daddy was jealous, and kept teaching me how to pronounce ba ba. hehe... :)

Skyler and friends decided to surprise Mommy Erica on Saturdary June, 21st 2008. We gathered a lot of friends and hid in the Club House near by. Auntie Nica and Vivian and Uncle William and Gary helped to decorate and picked up the food. Samson took Erica to a massage in the morning, and afterward, Erica wasn't sure why they drove to the club house.

What we found is that having a kid at home is like having a fuzzy comedian. With Skyler in the house, sometime we are pulling our hairs out trying to figure out what he wants. It's usually...eat, sleep, and play. On the flip side, he can bring a lot of laughters to the family. We were playing with him last night and was able to capture his smiles...

Skyler celebrated the First Mother's Day with Mommy Erica by giving her a photo card with his hand printed. The best gift from Skyler to Mommy Erica was that he slept for 6 and a half hrs straight. That morning, we also went to Sear's photo department for our first picture. Skyler was cooperating. He was tried or hungry. When we are ready, the Sear's people were to busy trying to fit us in that day. We end up heading to Pleasanton downtown for lunch.

We have notice little changes as Skyler is growing up.

Episode one.

Skyler was lying in bed when I got off work. He was starting to getting a little fuzzy and want me to hold him when he heard my voice. I walked over and start talking to Skyler. Skyler gets more fuzzy and almost begin to cry. I told him to "smile" for me if he wants me to hold him. What I witness was that Skyler understand me. He smiled for a second and became fuzzy again. I laughed, picked him up and Skyler calmed down and began to chat with me. I need to watch what i say around little kids.

Episode two.

Skyler was fuzzy again. Grandma tried to hold him. Erica tried to hold him, walked around the house and it didn't work. Erica gave up and say down on the sofa. Skyler begins to watch TV and quieted down. Since then we noticed that he likes to sit up and watch the TV. We all have fun watching him watching TV.

Everyday, we zoomed by our day to day activities. I heard many times that people are looking forward for weekend or getting off work. We are so busy wishing and zooming by life that we don't always take the time to stop and see what is around us. With Skyler now in the house, I now learned to stop by his room, take breaks, have little chat with him and see him change. We don't want to miss him growing up. It reminds of the movie "Click" and if you haven't seen it, rent it this weekend.

We haven't updated our blog since Feburary. A lot of things were going during March and April. We rent out our old house to a couple, and moved to San Ramon the end of March. Mommy and Daddy went to Atlantis, Bahamas for Daddy's company conference in April. Mommy enjoyed the sun, and she was able to relax after the move, the work and the house. She slept 12 hrs straight during her vacation. Thank you Daddy brought Mommy to the trip. They tried Mesa Grill which was opened by Bobby Flay, but it wasn't very impressed. They ate alot of good food, and did one day sailing and slokerlling. Daddy got sea sick, and just slept while they went back to the hotel, while Mommy enjoyed her fruit punch, and had sun-tan. Thank you grandmom took care of me, while Mommy and Daddy were on the trip. Mommy called me every 4 hours, made sure I ate, sleep and poo. hehe...
We haven't settled down the new house yet, hopefully we can unpack all the boxes, and reorganize the garage by end of this month. Many people want to meet me, and visit our new house. Daddy is trying to devote his every weekend, and thank you uncle Issac helps us to move and clean up.
Mommy was back to work the middle of March. She was extremely tired as she needs to prepare dinner and play with me after work. 24 hours is not enough for her now. She gives up her sleeping time, and feeds me/plays with me during night time. Now, I know how to suck my finger, sometimes the whole fist to my mouth whenever I am hungry. I like talking to Mommy during night time after she feeds me. She enjoys every single moment with me.
We met Kealan (uncle Rodney and aunt Collins' son) last Sunday. He has alot of hair and looks like uncle Rodney. Both of us look like Dad. His voice is low pitch, and mine is high pitch. Mommy made fun of us, saying that we can be chorus later. I am sure Kealan and I will be good friends, so as Daddy and Rodney. :)

Skyler Due Date 2-27-08

Today will be Skyler's due date. He is about 8lbs. He is doing well except this kid doesn't like to sleep at night. He like to "hang out" when we are about to go to sleep. I guess that is what he should be doing during his teenage year.

Skyler, Erica and I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all the friends, and families with their generous gifts. Skyler loves them very much and he has more stuffs then we do. We really appreciates all the supports, well wishes, thoughts and gifts.

New Year is always very festive in our family. Usually, we visited families and eat around town. This year, more friends and families visited us because we are not travelling much with Skyler. Oh, we finally decided and settled the Chinese Name for Skyler. It's Chan Bai Xi , 陳栢禧.

Home, Sweet Home...

On January 30th 2008, Skyler came home with us. It seems to be a long month and definitly a long jounary before coming home. He weighted approx. 5 lbs and 13 ounces when he was discharged from the hospital.

At first the doctors told us that Skyler will be returning home around Feb. 27th., but as he grew and progessed, the doctors and nurses keep pushing him and gotten him ready for us. Sometimes, we wonder if we are ready for him. On one hand, we are happy for his return home but on the other hand, we also wanted him to stay in the hospital longer so he can be more stable and more ready for us, since Erica and I are not medical professionals. I guess Skyler is telling and teaching us to be ready as parents, to take on more responsiblities and to enjoy his company at home. It's a great feeling and reward to hold him into his sleep.

A few days before his return, the nurses performed a car seat test on Skyler to make sure that he will be stable on the way home.

This is the nurse bathing him and teaching us how to bath him. Skyler at first didn't like the water but was very comfortable afterward. Of course, Erica and I did a baby bathtub shopping the next day.

The day Skyler was release from NICU, his grandma (Erica's mother) also need to go back to Hong Kong. She taught us a lot since she is taking care of another grandkid in Hong Kong. The great thing is that Skyler's other grandma (Samson's mother) was able to come over and help. Erica, Skyler and I really appreciated their help. I guess eventually, Erica will do the same for Skyler.

Lastly, I saw this great commerical at a meeting. You guys might like it...

"Today, I prayed the first time in my life. The sight of my baby brought tears to my eyes... I made a promise. That I will watch over my baby till the end of the world. And that I will always loves him. Please say a prayer for my baby."

Many Faces of Skyler

Skyler is getting bigger. He is now 2144 grams. He is beginning to make faces when we visited him. When Issac visited him after haven't seen him for days, Issac said Skyler looks different. Maybe this is a good sign, a progress that he is growing. We are bottle/breast feeding him twice a day. Both Erica and I had "fun" burping Skyler. Erica said feeding Skyler is a full time job. :P

Skyler also took his first bottle feeding today. It was a lot of work for him. He needs to suck, breathe, & swallow. Bottle feeding was much easier for him since he doesn't need to suck as hard. It was fun watching him. Erica and I got pretty tired ourselves trying to feed him.

12th day - Vinegar & Ginger

The Chinese tradition usually includes the Vinegar & Ginger party. My Mom made a huge pot today. She started at about 11 in the morning and was done around 4ish when my families arrived. Grandpa and Grandma finally got to visited Erica since got some time to recover. Although we couldn't visit Baby Skyler today, everyone chatted and got to ask Erica about her experience. Anyone that wants Vinegar and Ginger should give us a call or send us an email.

Skyler has been eating and sleeping well. He is now 4lbs and 3oz. We were glad to see him broke the 4lbs mark. His weight swung up and down around the 3lbs level the last 2 weeks like the stock market. AND in the long run, it should be up. :P

We also tried to take a picture for Skyler's Passport. This is the only good picture after 5 minutes of struggles before the nurse had to place the feeding tube.

Eye Opening Experience

January 10th, 2008

Baby Skyler is off the air machine and is digesting the milk. The Doctor also took out his IV. He looked much more comfortable today. His weight is at 3lbs and 14oz, his birth weight. When we visited him today, he was lying and sleeping on his stomach. But he didn't like that too much and tried to turn the body himself, according to Erica. I think he was just pushing and kicking. He was also quite awake today and we were able to capture him when he opened his eyes.

As the baby grows, the doctor is challenging him to grow. First, they lowered the air pressure so Skyler can learn to breath on his own. They are feeding him more and more so he will not need the IV once he can digest the milk and formula. The next step is to learn to eat without the tube and to learn to live in room temperature. We'll continue to challenge him until he is ready to go home.

Baby Skyler is teaching us to remember the little things we took for granted: how to breath, how to eat, and how to received care, support, and love from everyone around us. Sometime we think that he is all alone in the NICU box, fighting to get out to the world. But when I saw him looking at us today, I also discovered that Skyler might not believe he is alone. Through his eyes, he is not alone because there are so much more around him that hopefully he doesn't feel lonely. Maybe that's why he didn't like to sleep on his stomach.

I just got back from visit Baby Skyler this morning. He is sleeping well. Today his weight is 3 lbs 12 oz. The Doctor said we would start breast feeding soon.

I was notify by my friends (Frances) that she received multiple emails from my hotmail account. I don't know why it happened since I got it only once myself. I apologize it you guys received the same email 10 times.

Any way, here is the email:

Dear Families and Friends,

Thank you for all your thoughts, greeting cards, voice mails and emails. Words can’t express our appreciations.

Baby Skyler is doing well, even though he is now weighting 3lbs and 12 oz. His weight went down a little and is now going back up. He was on the “sun bath” the last 2 days. The chest x-ray result looks good. He is also breathing on his own as the doctor will take out his air flow tube today or tomorrow. He is also digesting the breast milk. He enjoys his time when we can visit him. Erica changed his diaper for the first time last night, it was quite challenging but a great experience for all us. I had fun watching it. We’re counting the days when we can take him home. This would be couple weeks according to the Doctor.

After a hectic week, Erica and I are more calm now and are adjusting to the schedule and visits to Kaiser. As Erica is healing, we should be able to adjust ourselves after this week.

Erica and I had put together a blog to update her parents in Hong Kong and out of state friends. January 7th - Day 6th

Day 6th, January 7th, 2008

Skyler is doing much better. He is still in NICU but the doctor said he is breathing much better. As he progress, the doctor will take his air flow tube out so he will breath on his own. He is also digesting Erica's milk well. He will soon be of IV as he gets stronger.

We hold him the first time on day 4. Sklyer was able to sleep on our chest and he likes it very much. His sleep like Erica, with both of his arms up in the air or over his head. He also kicks when he sleep. Erica and I spend time in the hospital visiting Sklyer when we have time.

A lot of our families and friends are very supportive and understanding. Once we are physically and emotionally settles, we can have guests. This way, Baby Skyler can meet his new friends.

We learned a lot over the last few days. Sometime life situation happens and take you unexpectedly. We decide to focus on our time and energy on how we could make it better for tomorrow, there wasn't much time to figure out what happened or how it happened. Every hour we spend with Sklyer meant a lot to us as we see other babies was able to go home with their parents. There are times when we don't want to leave the hospital so we can spend more time with him. Sometimes we take our family and friends for granted and forgotten how important those time together can be. More importantly, Erica had be very strong as she trying to recovery from the C-section and spend her energy on Skyler. I'll make sure Baby Sklyer will remember as he grows up.

Oh, call your mother once a while. They did a lot for us when we were kids.

January 1st, 2008 - Happy New Year!

Dear Family and Friends,

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone has a great holiday and enjoyed their vacation. 2007 was an amazing and fun year. Erica and I welcomed the 2008 New Year at my friend, William & Nica’s place on New Year eves. We had a blast with all the laughter, food, & games and is surely another memorable party.

When Erica woke up the next morning, January 1st, 2008, she was shocked that she was bleeding. We had to go to Kaiser Labor and Delivery right away. Then on January 1st, 2008, Baby Skyler Chan is born, weighting 3lbs 14oz and 17.5 inches long. It was quite a day. (This was going to be our baby shower party invitation email, but it turns out to be better news). Baby Skyler didn’t want to wait till Feb 27th and decided to be a New Year Baby.

Erica and Baby Skyler are now stable condition. Erica is recovering from the Cesarean Section. Although it was tough, she was able to get out of bed yesterday and begin to walk around. She’ll need to improve her blood pressure. The Doctor might discharge her in a day or two. Baby Skyler is in NICU growing and will be discharge in 30-45 days once he is bigger and stronger. Please have your best wishes for them.

Erica and I are still overwhelmed and exhausted with all that is going around. We’ll update everyone via email. We’ll have our phone turned off most of the time, so if possible, please email us with your wishes & questions, rather then calling us via our phones. Also, this way I can print and read it to Erica while I visit her. Thanks everyone for your understanding and considerations.

This year, since my mom is traveling in China. Erica and I decided to take the family on a SF.

We found Chinese Names for us while we are walking in Fisherman's Wharf.

Since this might be our last mini-vacation together, Erica and I went to Napa, Calistoga, and St. Helen for 2 days. We did some wine tasting. Well, I drink and Erica watch. We got some wine for Christmas gifts as well.

We went to the Press Room for dinner. It's one of hte best Steak I had. Napa always have great food.

We got a rental to drive around Napa...well...then i woke up...

Maybe we can get the Lotus instead of a mini-van...what do you guys think?

Stroller Shopping Day

We started shopping for "bai bai" (our baby's nickname) since last couple weeks. Today, we went to Right Start baby store in Palo Alto. They carry alot of European brand names strollers and car seats. I have done a lot of researches and reviews about the strollers and cars, and have been wanting to see Quinny brand stroller with Maxi Cosi carseat. The Quinny is a famous European brand stroller, very durable and easy to fold.
3 of us spent an hour for choosing a stroller. But, we are still deciding which one we should pick. The Buzz is very comfortable but huge. It weights 26 lb. The Zapp is very light, compact, and weights 13 lb only.

Halloween

We went to Half Moon Bay for the Halloween Festival. The traffic was terrible, and it took us an hour to drive down to the bay. While we are on our way, we saw some big dinosaur architectures.

We went to Lemos Farm for the Halloween Festival. There were alot of kids running around, and some of them wore customs. Samson and I thought we should bring our kids to here next year.

My brother thought this was a human being, and got scared. :)

October 21, 2007 - Emma's Bridal Shower

We haven't updated our blog for a long time. Carman kai ma complaint about this last week. hehe...
Emma will hold a wedding in Hong Kong on December. All the gals gathered together and held a bridal shower at Four Season Hotel in Palo Alto. We chit chat and had a brunch there. The food was delicious, but the service was so so...the waiters were so "wo sher sher". :)

Home Rest

Doctor suggested me to stay at home for a whole week, as I was bleeding. She asked me not to do any housework, drive or even work, so I just sit and watch TV, sleep and eat. Thank you Samson and my brother Issac take care of me, cooking food, doing housework. :)

Baby is doing good, and he is moving alot. When I had an ultrasound last time, I saw him raising his both hands above his head, seems like waving to us.

We had quite a lot of activities last couple week. We went to Gary L's birthday party and saw Hacken Lee's concert in San Francisco on Oct 6. Baby was so hyper, so does his mom. We have group of 13, and screamed and waved at Hacken. The concert was a blast. Everyone was enjoyed it so much. After, we went SF china town to have a late dinner. We haven't done it for awhile after we moved to Eastbay. All of us were enjoyed all the delicious food, and the late night talk.

Gary L was making fun with me and Wennie.

They were playing the "ball chi kei"..everyone looked frustrated.

I was craving for Shanghai food one day, and made the Shanghai Sticky Rice.

We had a birthday dinner with another "dai to por" Collins. She is 4 months, and her tummy is shown now.

Lastly, Samson and I went to do some shopping for my maternity clothes, and I have a HUGE ice cream from San Francisco Creamery Shop in Walnut Creek. I haven't treated myself with such a BIG ice cream. I felt so satisfied. :)

2008 October 5th - 3rd Year

After spending some hours of doing the research, I am able to unlock my iPhone sucessfully. It was an amazing and long process. It took me 2+ hours to do the unlock the iPhone.

Baby is 19 week now, and my waist line is 37". Both of us can't believe that my waist line widen 1 additional inch per week. My belly button is popping up, and everyone is touching my belly now. I starts feeling the baby's movement; he is moving like popcorn popping or butterfiles in my stomach. According to some researches, baby is able to hear while we are talking. He started distinguishing our voices from others.

The funny part is Samson always touchs my belly, and talks to him..."BB, how are you doing?", "BB, are you doing good in mommy's stomach?" Samson wants baby to recognize his voice now. Today is our 3rd year anniversary. Time flies so fast. Next year, we will celebrate our 4th year with baby. :)

Welcome to the new page of Erica & Samson's production blog. We'll use this blog as a communication to our family and friends, especially everyone not in California.
